my favorite month of the year. also, my least favorite.
favorite, because everything about it makes me happy: the crisp air, the atmosphere of things preparing for a long winter's nap, the vibrant leaves against a brilliant blue sky, the vibrant leaves against a moody gray sky, the apples and pumpkins, the baking, the blankets, the scarves and fleece that come out of hiding, halloween, the official start of Getting Into The Holiday Spirit ...
it all makes me deliriously happy.
least favorite because, historically, it's the start of marc's busy season. which really gets in the way of being able to enjoy this month. because too much life usurps the "enjoying."
i always say i'm going to try to love october anyway, and find a way to appreciate the fleeting beauty of it, regardless of our schedule.
that hasn't always worked out very well, though.
but i'm going to do my best. time to make a list of things i need to do to get the house "fall-ified," and run to the store for some gourds and mums.
in the three years we've lived here, i haven't once decorated for fall. this year, i remedy that.
because even though it's more work, it's a good kind of work. it's the kind that makes me happy when i see it around me. and that has to count for something.
so, happy october! may your gourds be large, may your lattes be warm, and may your blankets be cozy!
