the bathroom is lacking one last thing, and yet i'm already moving on to the next project.
there's something wrong with me.
we still need to get up a shower curtain and window covering in the bathroom, and then i'll post some pix. hopefully by this weekend.
i need to head to ikea this week to get some more cable curtain wire and clip rings ... the plan is to mount them on the ceiling for the shower curtain, then create a right-angle so the wire stretches across the window as well. we couldn't go with a traditional shower curtain rod because, apparently, they no longer make straight curtain rods that screw into the wall (especially ones in a non-traditional lengths). you have to either get a curved one or have one custom cut, to the tune of $80+ dollars. no thanks.
so i'm getting crafty. hence, wire from the ceiling. which also solves the problem of how to hang the window curtain. the trim butts up against the tile, so there's nowhere to screw in hardware for the curtain. the wire from the ceiling is a twofold solution. love that. and i'm planning to order these curtain panels for both the window and the shower, so they blend and, hopefully, retreat a little, given it's such a small space. my question now is: do i get a long one for the shower, and a short one for the window? or do i get two long ones and gather them together in the corner when the window isn't covered and/or the shower is not in use? i'm torn. i may order two long and one short and play around before deciding.
next project on our plates is harper's room. it's still the adorable, somewhat vintage-y, orange room it has been for four years, and i still love it, but harper is totally over it. and has said as much.
so i've been trying to figure out which direction to go next. harper says "jungle;" i say, "try again." she also mentioned "rainbow," which i think could be a lot of fun. right now i'm envisioning this:
as much as i loathe wallpaper, this would be so perfect for my girl ...
her walls are currently an off-white on the bottom two-thirds of the room, with chair rail molding separating the off white and the orange on the top of the walls. i would love to hang this paper on the bottom part of the walls, or at least on one wall, paint the chair rail black, and then put something sort of pastel-bright on the top of the room.
and i am loving one of these colors for the upper third of the walls ...
i would love to create something similar to this to go in her room. i've had this idea bookmarked for YEARS! incidentally, suziebeezie is a HUGE inspiration for how i want my house to be someday. just the general overall feeling of her style is what really speaks to me. i need to get away from yellow/red/brown/olive and get in touch with my inner "summer" and flea market addict.
easier decisions have already been made: this bed from ikea (which would actually double as a suitable bed for guests when they come visit, so people no longer have to sleep on our couches), i want to make something similar to this to hang over a table, which will actually function as a little vanity, with small boxes painted pretty colors to hold her goodies and a mirror on the wall, and i adore this piece ... (and if i'm ordering that piece of art, i might as well order this one for the living room, too. i've loved this since '04; it might be time.)
so that's our spring project.
along with thoughts that we'll lay linoleum tile in the laundry room and spray the walls with paint and add real shelves ...
we'll get this house perfect then move. just watch. that's exactly what we did with the last house.
still fun to play and dream, though.
